I was a little nervous reading the mixed reviews and guess I got lucky. We had a 10-12 inch snowfall here today so I unboxed it and was surprised that it came fully assembled. All I had to do was add the oil and gas and tighten down the maintain knobs for the handles. Checked all the cables and intelligent parts and everything was tight and functional. Only goof up (mine) was pumping the primer button 10 times as I was used to the B&S portion on my mower. After some choking and smoking I looked at the by hand and saw you should only pump twice. Got it running and cleared my sidewalks and driveway and three of my neighbors drives including a wheelchair ramp for a disabled neighbor. Stalled once when it hit a kids rubber ball buried in the snow but started right back up with no choke or prime. Checked it out when I got back to the garage and everything was still tight and working good. Impellers looked great and had good clearance all the way around. Based on the introductory run, I would call this a good unit and great little snowblower.

With the Black & Decker Leaf Hog, you can clean up both the deck and the lawn with one reasonably priced and easy-to-maintain machine. This blower/vac is electric, so it requires an extension cord and an electric outlet to run, but there's nothing else to set up or maintain. The 12 amp motor has considerable power for its size, more than enough to clear driveways or decks or blow off sections of lawn. The correct button took us a moment to find, but once you've located it, you simply depress it and remove the blowing unit, then attach the vacuum extension in its place. The extension has a bag for mulch, which attaches with a small clasp. When vacuuming, the unit mulches by sucking leaves through the fan assembly. Though this model, with its patented Vortex anticlog vacuum system, does a better job of remaining unclogged than most, you still need to be careful to avoid rocks and sticks. I recently borrowed a Leaf Hog from my neighbor and it was great. It honestly helped me get the yard cleaned up for spring. I am right on going to buy my own so I'll be ready for Fall. The thing is honestly easy to turn from blower to vacuum. Since they won't pick up leaves and lawn clippings where we live it helps to be able to mulch them up into a small trash bag with the vacuum part. It sure makes yard clean up easier.

Great for the East Coast... : Black & Decker LH4500 12 amp 2-Speed Electric Leaf Hog Blower / Vacuum with Leaf Bag

Used this twice and let me tell you this thing is strong and tough. I never got my leaves done so fast and it handles wet leaves with out a problem. Chops up small twigs too. This is by far well worth the purchase. I bought the Toro 43 gallon collapsable bin which works great. I also bought the Bv-006 attachment for this but it does not fit it. I contacted B&D and they are shipping an attachment for the Lh4500 to me asap. The attachment will be included in future boxes of the Lh 4500.

I just purchased this blower a few weeks ago and we have had abundance of snow. It does blow snow very well- but it wore me out. This is my 3rd blower and I have some touch with these. The chute controls took too much exertion to operate- the detent release was especially frustrating. The chute also did not swivel far sufficient from side to side so you could not blow level sideways. The chute also did not pivot far sufficient down- when I used it on city sidewalks I struggled to keep the snow from reaching the street. I plan the disagreement shoes were too small for this heavy of machine. When I blew my gravel driveway, the small shoes dug too much into the ice and gravel. I also felt that it was too front heavy- it took too much exertion to raise the front. The headlight was also in a bad place- while the shoot was blowing to the right it fully blocked the light. My hands also cramped up from the grip needed to hold the levers down- maybe the handles were too small. Ok- I am over fifty and maybe getting whimpy- but the blower wore me out.
